Kenechi’s place is a TRUST that supports kids with special needs. it is a place of hope, growth and creativity. It is the space where children have the support and care needed to grow and develop at their own pace and fulfill their potential. This they do with the support of a team of qualified and caring professionals.

It may interest you to know that the inspiration for Kenechi’ s Place comes from its namesake, Kenechi Ikemefuna – a special child born with special needs and a large personality, who loves his family and is determined to live a full life. Kenechi’ s mother, Lucy is the driving force behind the Centre, which was born after her desperate search for a place in Zimbabwe that will help Kenechi grow to his full potential. She wanted a center where the curriculum had a healthy balance of academic syllabus and the full development of the child as a fully functioning human being.

This ethos is perhaps best captured in a saying that strongly resonates: “as special needs parents we don’t have the power to make life fair, but we have the power to make life joyful.”,

The purpose of the Center is to primarily work with children who are yet to develop the requisite skills for placement in mainstream schooling but need additional support to learn and grow in a supportive environment to develop this skillset. Moreover, we are committed to ensuring each child has access to both a highly trained leader to support learning, as well as professional inputs from Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, and Psychology amongst others to help in the children’s development.

At Kenechi Place, our hope is to bring joy where there has been despair and fear of the future by offering a safe haven for these special children.
